Working in collaboration with Beyer Blinder Belle, the team designed and created a dramatic new landscape with fountains, a “stony brook”, walkways, trees and large sweeps of green lawn to replace great stretches of concrete pavement which had make the center of the campus a barren and inhospitable place. In particular, Mrs. Miller planted a total of 20,000 ground covers, ornamental grasses, perennials and shrubs to soften and humanize this area. Near the Administration Building and the Library, she created two gardens with a wide variety of plants for interest and color throughout the year. Stony Brook University has hired Mrs. Miller to continue to expand this vision to other parts of the campus. In 2005, extensive plantings were installed in the newly constructed Staller Amphitheater. And in 2006, the Entry Drive at Stony Brook was planted with an allee of Metasequoia and large drifts of native grasses and perennials.
